Centering Mental Wellness in Underserved Communities

Health is more than physical. It’s emotional. It’s social. It’s environmental. It’s access.

The Wellness Health Center is dedicated to supporting mental and whole-person wellness in communities that have historically been overlooked, under-resourced, or excluded from equitable care. We provide education, assessments, culturally relevant resources, and trusted information designed to help individuals better understand their mental health and overall well-being.

Because wellness should not depend on your zip code.

Start Here: Check In With Yourself

You might benefit from exploring your mental wellness if you’ve noticed:

  • Constant stress that doesn’t go away

  • Trouble sleeping or staying asleep

  • Feeling irritable or emotionally drained

  • Difficulty focusing

  • Loss of motivation

  • Pulling away from people

  • Physical symptoms like headaches, fatigue, or tension

Small changes in how you feel can be your body’s way of asking for support.

WHAT IS WELLNESS?

Wellness is the ongoing process of making choices that support health across multiple areas—including physical activity, nutrition, sleep, stress management, and preventive care. It involves building daily routines that support energy, resilience, and quality of life, while also addressing barriers that limit healthy living.

Common Risk Factors

  • Chronic stress
  • Poor sleep quality or insufficient sleep
  • Physical inactivity
  • Unhealthy diet or limited access to nutritious foods
  • Tobacco use or vaping
  • Excess alcohol use
  • Social isolation or lack of support
  • Financial insecurity or housing instability
  • Limited access to preventive care

Possible Signs and Symptoms

  • Frequent fatigue or low energy
  • Ongoing sleep problems
  • Changes in appetite or weight
  • Persistent stress, irritability, or feeling overwhelmed
  • Difficulty concentrating or reduced motivation
  • Frequent headaches or muscle tension
  • Reduced physical endurance or shortness of breath with activity
  • Feeling disconnected from others or daily activities

Protecting Wellness

Staying physically active, eating balanced meals, prioritizing sleep, managing stress, avoiding tobacco, and receiving routine preventive screenings can support long-term wellness and reduce risk for chronic conditions.

Wellness challenges often build gradually and may not be recognized early. This self-assessment is designed to help you reflect on factors that may affect your overall wellbeing and determine whether additional screening or follow-up may be helpful. This tool is educational and not a medical diagnosis.
